The Birth of Compassionate Family Carers . A Journey Rooted in Love and Service
Many of you know me for my work rescuing and supporting survivors of sexual and gender-based violence in Kisumu County. Over time, this calling has expanded to offering palliative care for critically ill survivors and our beloved senior citizens, ensuring dignity, comfort, and compassion in their most vulnerable moments.
To help sustain this vital work at Compassionate Centre for Families - CCF , I quietly took myself back to school to understand the dynamics of healthcare assistants, I then built a healthcare support business on the side; Compassionate Family Carers. Through this agency, we’ve sent certified caregivers and CNAs to support patients and the elderly right in the comfort of their homes. We’ve offered end-of-life care to terminally ill clients, helped families coordinate treatment logistics, and even sourced accommodation for those travelling for chemotherapy and medical procedures.
These services, though paid, have gone a long way in covering the administrative costs of our nonprofit work, which is why some of you may have noticed a decline in my fundraising appeals. This is what has been happening behind the scenes.
I want to take a moment to thank Avenue Homecare and Pharmacies for partnering and standing with us for the past 1 year. Your belief in my vision made all the difference. I'm also deeply thankful to the diaspora families and local clients who entrusted me with the care of their parents and loved ones, often without ever meeting me in person. You believed, you supported, and you paid on time. We are here because of you.
This is the official birth of Compassionate Family Carers, a professional agency founded by me, for the mission of Compassionate Centre for Families CBO.
And as always, please continue supporting Compassionate Centre for Families CBO through your donations. We cannot care for the hundreds of survivors we serve without your unwavering generosity.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Sheila Akinyi Otieno Jaoko
